Useful information:

A first-hand look at outback roads:

  • Queensland Police Service are reminding motorists of the hidden dangers on outback roads. Today and every day, on roads right across Queensland, drive safely to arrive alive and remember the Fatal Five.

  • Throughout the winter months, QPS officers across the South West see populations swell as motorists and tourists travel through some of Queensland's most vast and remote areas, travelling outback roads to there.

  • A road safety initiative focused on outback driving has been released today, detailing some of the conditions encountered on outback Queensland roads as well as dash cam footage from an incident in 2018.

  • While no one was seriously injured, the dash cam footage depicts a collision which happened between Windorah and Birdsville during the busy tourist period.

  • As shown in the footage, traffic on the road creates extra dust which then becomes a visibility hazard for motorists.
