Traffic & road events and information can be located within several areas of the website, dependent on the information sourced by the user. There are also key links within the website to provide the user with assistance or options.

• Traffic cameras

  The purpose of a web camera is to provide information on traffic flow and road conditions. Web camera images are from Non-Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) cameras. The non-PTZ cameras are used to ensure inappropriate and/or private information about the public is not published.

  Transport and Main Roads (TMR) provides real-time traffic web cameras throughout Queensland so you can check current traffic conditions on state-controlled roads.

  The web cameras on the QLDTraffic website update every 60 seconds. To manually refresh a camera image, press F5 on your keyboard.

  The Queensland Government Privacy Act does not allow for the privacy rights of any individual to be compromised. To ensure this, the image quality and resolution of the cameras have been deliberately set so that they cannot reveal detail that would allow any individual person or vehicle to be identified. Download a copy of the Information Privacy Act 2009.

  This image is currently unavailable’ may display at times for individual web cameras instead of the live traffic view. There are times when the web cameras may not be working, some of the reasons include:

  • A camera may be turned off to protect the privacy of road users after a crash or incident

  • The images may not be available due to technical problems. The problem may be the camera or the communication network

  • A camera may be having on-site repairs or routine maintenance

  • A camera may be taken off-line while roadworks are taking place along the road the camera is located on. Once roadworks are complete the cameras are re-installed in either the same location or a new, more appropriate location.

• Interactive Map

  To navigate the Interactive Map, the map can be panned by clicking and dragging the mouse, and zoomed by using the mouse scroll wheel (if available) or via the zoom control in the top right corner of the map. Please note that by default, the map will be set to show the whole of Queensland. However, if you have set the “My location” feature on this browser, every time you load the map, it will centre on the saved location.

  The Interactive Map also features a variety of icons representing different events on the map. These are divided into four (4) categories:

  • Current traffic events: Hazards, Crashes, Congestion, Flooding, and any Special Event or Roadworks that are active today

  • Future and planned events: Special Events and Roadworks that are scheduled to occur in the future

  • Interstate Information: Any roads which have been closed for a significant period of time and have recently been reopened

  • Points of interest: Dump points, rest areas and traffic cameras

• Aliases

  The road names that appear in brackets in some of the descriptions and/or after some of the official state-controlled road names are local road names known as aliases.

  In most cases, these are road names that are more commonly known amongst the locals. The QLDTraffic website currently displays a maximum of two (2) local names (aliases) after the official state-controlled road name in brackets (i.e. state controlled road (local name 1, local name 2)).

  A user is able to search for traffic and road events using local road (alias) names. It is important to remember that a local road name may not be considered an alias or be currently available for selection.

  The QLDTraffic website uses a number of data sources to present the local road name (alias) information. Occasionally, a user may note some inconsistent data. Please email us with any feedback.

• JSON Feeds

  JSON feeds allow you to see when new content is published on a website without having to visit the site itself. These feeds cover incidents and hazards, road closures and restrictions, roadworks and special events. Additionally, the traffic web camera details are available via the GeoJSON feeds.
